Organizing Activities through Social Stories to Develop Communication Skills for Primary School Autistic Students

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to examine activities through social stories and compare communication skills of autistic students before and after doing the activities. This research was an experimental research using multiple baseline design. The target population selected by purposive sampling was three 9-10 year-old autistic students of Wat Aranyikaram School who had no multiple disabilities, could read, but had communication problems. The instruments used were 2 social story picture books, 2 activity plans, a communication behavior record form, an observation form, and an experiment plan. The range and observation were the parameters used for statistical analysis. The data were presented in the form of graphic data presentation.

The findings revealed that the autistic students lacked communication skills on asking for permissions to use the restroom and asking for help. The students’ communication skills were higher after doing the activities through social stories as they could tell what they wanted, understood social situations, and improved communication skills to ask for help by copying conversations in the picture books

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาและเปรียบเทียบทักษะการสื่อสารการจัดกิจกรรมโดยใช้เรื่องราวทางสังคมของนักเรียนออทิสติกก่อนและหลังการวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงทดลองด้วยวิธีหลายเส้นฐาน กลุ่มเป้าหมายหลัก คือ นักเรียนออทิสติก อายุ 9-10 ปี ที่สามารถอ่านหนังสือได้และไม่มีความพิการซ้ำซ้อน แต่มีปัญหาการสื่อสาร ระดับชั้นประถมศึกษา โรงเรียน วัดอรัญญิการาม ซึ่งได้มาจากการเลือกแบบเจาะจง จำนวน 3 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ หนังสือภาพเรื่องราวทางสังคม จำนวน 2 เรื่อง แผนการจัดกิจกรรมเรื่องราวทางสังคม จำนวน 2 แผน แบบบันทึกพฤติกรรมการสื่อสารแบบบันทึกเหตุการณ์ และแบบแผนการทดลอง สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ได้แก่ ค่าพิสัยและการประเมินด้วยสายตา แสดงผลการวิจัยด้วยกราฟสถิติ

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า นักเรียนออทิสติกขาดทักษะการสื่อสารในสถานการณ์การขออนุญาตเข้าห้องน้ำและการพูดขอความช่วยเหลือจากบุคคลอื่น และหลังจากนักเรียนได้ร่วมกิจกรรมโดยใช้เรื่องราวทางสังคม นักเรียนมีพัฒนาการทักษะการสื่อสารสูงขึ้น คือ นักเรียนสามารถเดินเข้ามาพูดสื่อสารบอกความต้องการของตนเองได้มากขึ้น มีความเข้าใจสถานการณ์ทางสังคม และมีทักษะการพูดในการสื่อสาร เพื่อขอความช่วยเหลือในเรื่องต่าง ๆ กับบุคคลรอบข้าง โดยลอกเลียนแบบจากบทสนทนาในหนังสือภาพ
